New Delhi: The National Commission for Women (NCW) has called for strict action against Congress leaders Supriya Shrinate and H S Ahir for their derogatory comments aimed at actress Kangana Ranaut, who is contesting as the BJP candidate from Mandi Lok Sabha seat. The NCW chairperson, Rekha Sharma, has written to the Election Commission, demanding immediate measures against the two individuals.
Both Shrinate and Ahir faced backlash after making lewd and derogatory remarks about Kangana Ranaut on social media platforms. The NCW condemned such behavior, emphasizing that it undermines the dignity of women.
In response to the derogatory comments, Kangana Ranaut took to Twitter, asserting that every woman deserves dignity regardless of their profession. She highlighted her diverse roles as an actress, emphasizing the importance of respecting women’s integrity.
Supriya Shrinate clarified that an inappropriate post was made on her social media accounts by someone with access to them. She promptly deleted the post upon discovering it, asserting her commitment to maintaining decorum and respect towards all individuals, particularly women.
Kangana Ranaut was recently named as the BJP candidate from Himachal Pradesh’s Mandi constituency, while senior party leader Dr. Rajeev Bharadwaj would contest from Kangra constituency in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Ranaut had expressed openness to contesting from Mandi in October 2022, praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership and the sense of pride and nationalism prevailing in the country under his tenure.
