Noida’s Historic Vote from Home: Over 300 Seniors and Disabled Citizens Cast Ballots

In a landmark move by the Election Commission of India (ECI), over 300 senior citizens and persons with disabilities exercised their voting rights from the comfort of their homes in Noida’s Gautam Budh Nagar constituency. This groundbreaking initiative, introduced for the first time in these elections, aimed to facilitate voting for those facing mobility challenges.

Over 300 Seniors and Disabled Citizens Cast Ballots

For the first time in Noida’s Gautam Budh Nagar constituency, more than 300 elderly and disabled citizens voted from their homes. This special arrangement, introduced by the Election Commission of India (ECI), aimed to help those who find it hard to go to polling stations.

Dr. VK Agrawal, who oversees postal voting, explained how this new option was a big deal. It meant that people aged 85 and above or those with significant disabilities could still take part in elections.

Voting happened smoothly, with dedicated teams visiting homes from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on voting day. They’ll do it again on April 16 to make sure everyone who chose to vote from home gets their chance.

Out of 424 eligible voters, 355 decided to vote this way. This shows how important this option was, especially in places like Noida, where there are many elderly and disabled voters.

Similar efforts were made in Dadri and Jewar areas, where many eligible voters face challenges. Overall, more than 20,000 people in these categories were given the chance to vote from home.

General Observer Simrandeep Singh made sure everything ran smoothly. He checked polling stations and emphasized the need to deliver voting information on time.

This initiative shows that everyone’s voice matters in elections. By making it easier for elderly and disabled citizens to vote, the ECI is making democracy more inclusive.
