The nomination process for the seventh and last phase of Lok Sabha elections, covering 57 seats across seven states and Chandigarh, began on Tuesday. Scheduled for June 1, the seventh phase marks the culmination of the electoral process.
The Election Commission, acting on behalf of the President, issued the notification to kickstart the nomination phase.
Candidates aspiring to contest have until May 14 to file their nominations. Scrutiny of the nominations will occur on May 15, with candidates allowed to withdraw until May 17.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is slated to file his nomination from Varanasi on May 14. Preceding this, he will engage in a massive roadshow in his parliamentary constituency on May 13.
Having represented Varanasi since 2014, PM Modi’s candidature remains pivotal in the upcoming elections. In 2014, he secured victory by a significant margin of 3,71,784 votes, and in 2019, he further consolidated his position with a margin of 4,79,505 votes.
The final phase encompasses constituencies from Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, West Bengal, Bihar, Odisha, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, and Chandigarh.
In Uttar Pradesh, Varanasi holds substantial significance, among other constituencies such as Maharajganj, Gorakhpur, and Ballia. Punjab will witness polling in constituencies like Amritsar, Ludhiana, and Patiala. West Bengal’s key areas include Dum Dum and Kolkata Dakshin. Bihar, Odisha, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, and Chandigarh will also participate in this phase of elections.
