The Odisha government has taken precautionary measures in response to the prevailing heat wave conditions in the state, announcing a three-day closure of schools. The decision, effective from April 18 to 20, applies to all schools, including government, government-aided, and private institutions. Parents and students are urged to stay updated with their respective school authorities for the latest information regarding reopening dates.
The closure comes as a response to the rising day temperatures and the forecasted heat wave conditions expected to impact Odisha. The state is predicted to experience a gradual increase in temperature by 2 to 4 degrees Celsius over the next two days, with some areas likely to surpass the 45-degree Celsius mark.
Baripada town in Mayurbhanj district emerged as the hottest location in the country on Tuesday, recording a scorching temperature of 43.6 degrees Celsius. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) in Bhubaneshwar has indicated that heat wave conditions will persist in specific areas of various districts including Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Bhadrak, Balasore, Kendrapara, Jagatisinghpur, Cuttack, Khudra, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Nayagarh, Kandhamal, Koraput, Malkangiri, Angul, and Boudh on April 17.
In light of the heat wave conditions, the state government has urged citizens to take precautions, especially during the peak hours of the day. Parents and guardians are advised to ensure their children stay indoors, keep hydrated, and avoid unnecessary outdoor activities during the intense heat.
