Accident in Balochistan: A devastating incident occurred in Balochistan’s Hub district as a truck carrying pilgrims met with a tragic accident, resulting in 17 fatalities and over 30 injuries. The pilgrims were en route to the remote Muslim Sufi shrine Shah Noorani in Khuzdar district when the mishap occurred on Wednesday.
According to police reports, the accident was caused by a sharp turn during the drive, leading the truck to plunge into a deep ravine. The driver of the truck, Karim Baksh, who sustained injuries in the incident, has been taken into custody for further investigation. The group of pilgrims, numbering more than 70, had departed from Makli’s Qasim Jokhio village for the pilgrimage.
Rescue operations, led by social worker Saad Edhi, took nearly two hours to recover the victims. Seventeen deceased individuals were initially taken to a Civil Hospital in Hub district before being transferred to a morgue. Of the 17 casualties, 15 have been identified. The injured, numbering 38, were promptly shifted to nearby hospitals for medical attention.
Upon learning of the incident, Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti issued directives for immediate action. The district administration has been tasked with swiftly transferring the injured to hospitals. An emergency protocol has been activated at Jam Ghulam Qadir Hospital in Hub, with the CM instructing authorities to coordinate with the Sindh government for the transfer of critically injured individuals to Karachi.
This tragic incident sheds light on the recurring issue of road accidents in Pakistan. The nation frequently witnesses fatal accidents attributed to poor road conditions, insufficient safety awareness, and disregard for traffic regulations. The recent accident in Balochistan adds to a concerning pattern of such incidents, emphasizing the need for enhanced safety measures on roads.
In recent months, Pakistan has seen several fatal accidents, including a bus falling into a ravine in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa due to overspeeding, resulting in 10 deaths. Additionally, a bus carrying pilgrims caught fire in December last year, originating from Shah Noorani shrine to Karachi, claiming one life due to an overheated engine. These incidents underscore the urgent need for improved road safety practices across the country.
