The opposition leaders used slogans against the BJP government, highlighting the ‘cash-for-query’ case and the Ethics Committee’s recommendation that TMC MP Mahua Moitra be expelled, to create a turbulent start to the winter session of Parliament. Riding high on its recent electoral successes, the BJP plans to take on the Congress-led opposition during the meeting.

1. Opposition’s Tumultuous Start:

The opposition leaders disrupted the proceedings by raising slogans against the BJP government, centered on the ‘cash-for-query’ case and the Ethics Committee’s recommendation that TMC MP Mahua Moitra be expelled.

2. Government’s Legislative Agendas:

The government has outlined an ambitious legislative agenda for the session, with 21 Bills on the docket. This includes bills to replace the IPC, the Indian Evidence Act, and the CrPC.

3. BJP’s Confrontation with Congress-Led Opposition:

Riding on recent electoral victories, the BJP aims to confront the Congress-led opposition during the session, with key matters for discussion including Moitra’s expulsion and the introduction of significant bills.

BJP MP Sushil Modi dismissed opposition leaders’ allegations of EVM tampering, attributing their claims to post-election disappointment. He expressed confidence that the opposition factions would have faced defeat in Madhya Pradesh even if they had contested together.
