PM Modi to Attend Navy’s Operational Demonstrations on Monday

New Delhi : Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to participate in Navy Day celebrations on December 4 at Sindhudurg in Maharashtra. The event will include the unveiling of a statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj at Rajkot Fort.

This year’s Navy Day celebrations will take place at the historic Sindhudurg Fort, constructed by the Maratha ruler in the 17th century. PM Modi will also witness operational demonstrations featuring warships, submarines, aircraft, and special forces at Tarkarli beach.

The showcase will include 20 frontline warships, 40 aircraft, and demonstrations like combat beach reconnaissance and a simulated assault by elite marine commandos. The Navy Day commemorates Operation Trident, the navy’s 1971 attack on Karachi harbor during the war with Pakistan. This marks the first time such a mega event is organized outside a major naval station.

The operational display aims to provide the public with insights into the navy’s multi-domain operations, emphasizing its role in national security. The ceremony will conclude with the illumination of warships and a laser show at the iconic Sindhudurg Fort. The move aligns with the trend of the three services organizing flagship ceremonial events outside the national capital.

Last year, Navy Day celebrations were held in Visakhapatnam, and the Air Force and Army organized their parades in different cities. The shift demonstrates the decentralization of key armed forces events. The PMO statement highlights the significance of showcasing various facets of the navy’s operations and emphasizes its contributions to national security.
