In a significant political development, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Arunachal Pradesh has witnessed an increase in its Assembly strength with the defection of four legislators from the Congress and the Nationalist People’s Party (NPP). This move strengthens the BJP’s position with 56 out of 60 Assembly seats, setting the stage for the upcoming Assembly polls in Arunachal Pradesh.

Switch in Allegiance
Two Congress MLAs, Ninong Ering and Wanglin Lowandong, along with two NPP legislators, Mutchu Mithi and Gokar Basar, have joined the BJP. The switchovers occurred in the presence of Chief Minister Pema Khandu and BJP’s election in-charge for Arunachal, Ashok Singhal.

Four Arunachal MLAs Switch Allegiance to BJP Ahead of Polls. With the addition of these four legislators, the BJP now commands a majority with 56 out of 60 seats in the Arunachal Pradesh Assembly.

The Congress retains two seats, and there are two Independent legislators.

Timing Ahead of Assembly Polls
The defections come several months ahead of the Assembly polls in Arunachal Pradesh, which are scheduled to be held alongside the Lok Sabha election.

This strategic move aims to influence the political landscape and strengthen the ruling party’s position.

Details of Legislators

Ninong Ering represents the West Pasighat Assembly segment, and Wanglin Lowangdong is the MLA from Borduria Bogapani.
Mutchu Mithi and Gokar Basar represent Roing and Basar seats, respectively.

BJP’s Dominance in Arunachal Pradesh

With 56 seats under its control, the BJP is poised to retain power in the northeastern state.
In the 2019 polls, the BJP secured 41 seats, indicating a significant increase in its political influence.

This political development signifies a shift in the balance of power and sets the stage for a dynamic electoral landscape in Arunachal Pradesh.
