Reports suggest that the Congress is set to announce candidates for the Amethi and Raebareli Lok Sabha constituencies by Tuesday evening, as part of their ongoing election preparations across the country. With candidates already declared for 317 Lok Sabha seats, the party’s strategy for key constituencies is taking shape.

Sources within the Congress party have indicated that Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, a prominent leader, is leaning towards refraining from contesting the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Instead, she appears to be prioritizing a focused campaign across Uttar Pradesh, aiming to bolster the party’s prospects in the crucial state. Reports suggest that Priyanka Gandhi believes her efforts would serve the party better by mobilizing support statewide rather than limiting herself to one constituency.

Speculation is rife that Rahul Gandhi, another prominent Congress figure, might be nominated to contest from the Amethi Lok Sabha seat, reflecting the party’s strategic considerations.

Priyanka Gandhi has been actively engaged in election campaigning across Uttar Pradesh, with scheduled programs extending over the next few days. Her itinerary includes engagements in Assam, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh, followed by visits to Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat on May 3.

Despite calls from the Uttar Pradesh Congress urging the party’s top leadership to field Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra from Amethi and Raebareli, respectively, for the Lok Sabha polls, no decision has been reached during the recent meeting of the central election committee (CEC).

Meanwhile, Smriti Irani, Union minister and incumbent MP of Amethi, has taken a proactive stance in her election campaign, alleging that Congress leaders plan to exploit caste dynamics post-April 26. Irani accuses Rahul Gandhi of resorting to divisive tactics, citing his purported visits to temples in Amethi despite the Congress party’s absence at the consecration ceremony of Lord Shri Ram in Ayodhya. She urges vigilance among the electorate against potential attempts to stoke communal tensions.
