Pune: Class 8, 14-year-old student falls to death from second floor of civic school in Chinchwad

Pune: A Class 8, 14-year-old student from Kalewadi fatally fell from the third floor of a civic school in Chinchwad died after he lost balance while sliding on the staircase railing on the school premises on Friday.

Pune: A Class 8, 14-year-old student from Kalewadi fatally fell from the third floor of a civic school in Chinchwad died after he lost balance while sliding on the staircase railing on the school premises on Friday.

The PCMC’s education department identified the boy as Sarthak Kamble, student of Hutatma Chapekar school in Chinchwagaon. His friends had warned him against sliding on the railing just before the incident. His father, Harshvardhan Kamble, has submitted a written complaint to the police in this regard.

His father said,”My son was admitted to the school this academic year only. I received a call from my sister about the incident and immediately went to the hospital. I demand a detailed inquiry into the matter and those involved should be punished.” PCMC officials said the boy was sliding on the railing on the third floor of the school building. After he lost his balance and fell into the duct below. He suffered serious head injuries and was declared dead in the hospital.

Describing the incident, municipal commissioner Shekhar Singh said he has asked the education department to thoroughly investigate the matter and submit a report. He said,“I have asked the education department to investigate the matter and take all necessary steps to prevent such kind of incidents in future.”

He added,“The boy was apparently first playing on the third floor. He then came down to the second floor and tried sliding from the steel railing of the staircase, when he lost his balance and fell straight to the ground floor. He suffered serious head injuries and was rushed to Talera hospital, where he was declared dead.”

The commissioner said that he has requested the state government to provide Rs 5 lakh to the parents of the child. He said,”We have sent the proposal to the state government. Besides this, the state government also gives Rs 1.5 lakh in such casesm”

He further said they would organize counseling sessions for those students who saw the injured child and were shocked by the sight. Pimpri-Chinchwad police have registered a case of accidental death. The Kamble family, belonging to Baramati, shifted to the Pavananagar area of Kalewadi in Pimpri Chinchwad around 25 years ago. Harshvardhan is a driver. He has two sons and Sarthak was the eldest.
