Punjab: Shiromani Akali Dal announces first list of 7 candidates for LS elections 2024

Punjab: On Saturday, The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) has announced the first list of seven candidates for the Lok Sabha elections 2024. Senior party leaders Prem Singh Chandumajra fielded from Anandpur Sahib and Daljit Singh Cheema from Gurdaspur.

Punjab: On Saturday, The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) has announced the first list of seven candidates for the Lok Sabha elections 2024. Senior party leaders Prem Singh Chandumajra fielded from Anandpur Sahib and Daljit Singh Cheema from Gurdaspur.

The list of candidates was announced by party leader Daljit Singh Cheema in a post on X. Polling for 13 Lok Sabha seats in Punjab will be held on June 1, while voting for 10 Lok Sabha seats in Haryana will take place on May 25.

Besides, the SAD also named former MLA N K Sharma from Patiala, former minister Anil Joshi from Amritsar. Bikramjit Singh Khalsa from Fatehgarh Sahib, Rajwinder Singh from Faridkot and Iqbal Singh Jhoonda from Sangrur seat. Shiromani Akali Dal leader Sukhbir Singh Badal announced the formation of a 15-member manifesto committee for the Lok Sabha polls on Wednesday.

According to information shared by Daljit Singh Cheema in a post on X, the committee has 15 members, and 6 additional members will act as special invitees. The committee will be headed by Balwinder Singh Bhunder, and Daljit Singh Cheema will be the member secretary of the committee.

In a post on social media X, Daljit Singh Cheema said,”The SAD President S Sukhbir S Badal has announced the Manifesto Committee of the party for Parliament elections. Senior Akali leader S Balwinder S Bhundar will be Chairman & Dr Daljit Singh Cheema will be Member Secretary of the committee. The Committee has 15 members & in addition, 6 members have been added as special invitees.”

The panel also includes party leaders Maheshinder Singh Grewal, Prem Singh Chandumajra, Bibi Jagir Kaur, Bikram Singh Majithia, Sikander Singh Maluka, Gulzar Singh Ranike, Anil Joshi, Heera Singh Gabadia, Pawan Kumar Tinu, Harcharan Singh Bains, Parminder Singh Dhindsa, Sukhwinder Kumar Sukhi and Iqbal Singh Jhundha.

The six special invitees include Youth Akali Dal president Sarabjit Singh Jhinjar, Istari Akali Dal president Bibi Hargobind Kaur, senior Christian leader Aman Supariwind, senior Christian leader Bunty Masih, Arshdeep Singh Kaler and Zahida Suleman. In Punjab, the Congress won 8 seats in the 2019 elections, while the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won 2 seats each. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) managed to win only one seat.
