Rahul Gandhi Summonsed by UP Court Over 2018 Controversial Remarks on Amit Shah

In a significant development, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has been called to appear before the MP/MLA court on December 16, 2023, in connection with a 2018 case involving alleged derogatory remarks against Union Home Minister Amit Shah during a Bengaluru conference. The summons follows a complaint filed by the then BJP District Vice President, Vijay Mishra.

Vijay Mishra, recounting the incident, stated, “Rahul Gandhi had accused Amit Shah in Bengaluru that he is a murderer. When I heard these allegations, I felt very pained because I am a 33-year-old worker of the party. I filed a complaint regarding this through my lawyer, and this continued for almost 5 years. Today the decision came in this.”

Santosh Kumar Pandey, the lawyer representing Vijay Mishra, highlighted that if sufficient evidence is found against Rahul Gandhi, he could face a maximum punishment of 2 years. The case originates from objectionable remarks made by Rahul Gandhi during a press conference in Bengaluru in 2018, specifically targeting Amit Shah.

Pandey explained, “Statements of three witnesses were taken in the complaint. He (Rahul Gandhi) can be given a maximum punishment of 2 years in this entire case if sufficient evidence is found against him. Either Rahul Gandhi should appear in court and secure bail, or if he does not appear, the court can take action against him.”

The court’s decision to summon Rahul Gandhi underscores the legal proceedings surrounding the case, with potential consequences for the Congress leader if the evidence supports the accusations made against him.
