Rajnath Singh Makes Singapore Visit on Return from ASEAN Summit

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh made a brief visit to Singapore on Saturday on his return journey from Indonesia, where he attended a meeting of the 10-nation ASEAN and some of its dialogue partners.

During his visit to Singapore, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh paid tributes to Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose by laying a wreath at the Indian National Army (INA) marker. This marker commemorates the “Unknown Warriors” of the INA, and it was proposed by Netaji himself, who laid the foundation stone in July 1945.

Rajnath Singh expressed his heartfelt tributes to the INA’s “Unknown Warriors” during the ceremony.

In 1995, the National Heritage Board of Singapore installed the INA marker at the same location as the original memorial, as mentioned in a statement by the Ministry of Defence.

During his visit, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also offered prayers at the Sri Srinivasa Perumal temple, dedicated to Lord Vishnu and dating back to 1855. Additionally, he visited the Indian Heritage Centre in the “Little India” locality, established in 2015 under the National Heritage Board to document the journey of Singaporean Indians.

Rajnath Singh’s visit to Singapore occurred during his return from the ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting – Plus (ADMM-Plus) in Jakarta, where he committed to principles such as freedom of navigation, overflight, and unimpeded lawful commerce in international waters, following international laws, including the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) 1982. Singapore is a member of the ASEAN.
