Renowned Tamil actor-comedian Lakshmi Narayan Seshu, dies at 60 in Chennai

Celebrated Tamil comedy icon, Lakshmi Narayanan Seshu, fondly known to fans as Lollu Sabha Seshu, passed away at a private hospital in Chennai on Tuesday, March 26, after battling health issues following a heart attack on March 15.

Chennai: Celebrated Tamil comedy icon, Lakshmi Narayanan Seshu, fondly known to fans as Lollu Sabha Seshu, passed away at a private hospital in Chennai on Tuesday, March 26, after battling health issues following a heart attack on March 15. Both television and cinema left a significant mark on the Tamil entertainment industry, being particularly remembered for her role in the popular TV show, Lollu Sabha and her influential roles in several Tamil films.

Seshu’s journey in the entertainment world began in 2002 with the Dhanush-starrer, Thulluvadho Ilamai. However, it was his character in the hit comedy show, Lollu Sabha, that brought him fame, making him a household name. His impeccable timing and unique style of comedy in the show paved the way for a successful transition to the big screen.

The news of Seshu’s passing was met with an outpouring of tributes from fans, fellow actors, and filmmakers. Director Ram Bala, who played a pivotal role in Seshu’s television career, and actress Swetha, among others, remembered him as a kind-hearted individual whose contributions to Tamil comedy have left an indelible mark. Seshu’s ability to bring laughter and joy to his audience, coupled with his humble nature, made him a beloved figure in the industry. His last cinematic venture was in the 2020 short film, Aurora, directed by his son, Abhilash, showcasing a different facet of his talent.

For those unaware, Seshu made his film debut in 2002 with Dhanush’s movie titled Thulluvadho Ilamai. The film also featured Sherin Shrinagar, Abhinay, Ramesh Khanna, Gangeshwari and Vijayakumar among others. He has also worked in a popular TV comedy show Lollyu Sabha, which gained him more recognition. After his stint on the show, he was called the comedy king of the South. He has also worked in films including Gulu Gulu, Nai Sekar Returns, Bulidup, A1, Dikkiluna, Draupadi and Vaddakkupatti Ramasamy among others.
