Patna,Bihar: Rambali Singh Chandravanshi, a Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) Member of Legislative Council (MLC), has been disqualified from the Bihar Legislative Council on Tuesday. The move comes in the aftermath of Chandravanshi making public statements against his own party and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.
Chandravanshi faced severe criticism after he labeled Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and RJD supremo Lalu Yadav as the biggest opponents of the extremely backward society. The RJD MLC also accused Tejashwi Yadav of consuming alcohol, going against the party’s policies. Moreover, he allegedly put up posters advocating the separation of certain extremely backward castes from the original category, leading to further controversy.
Rambali Singh Chandravanshi did not shy away from raising questions about the caste census, alleging Chief Minister Nitish Kumar of manipulating the data for political gains. His unfavorable stance on this issue added to the dissent within the party.
The disqualification process was initiated after RJD whip Sunil Kumar Singh filed a complaint on November 2, 2023, urging the cancellation of Chandravanshi’s membership. In response, on December 15, the MLC presented his clarification before the Legislative Council Speaker. After due consideration, Legislative Council Chairman Devesh Chandra Thakur delivered the verdict on February 6.
Rambali Singh Chandravanshi’s disqualification highlights the repercussions of making public statements against party leaders and policies. The internal discord within the RJD, exacerbated by his controversial remarks, underscores the challenges of maintaining party discipline and unity.
