Sandeshkhali Survivor and BJP Candidate Rekha Patra Receives X-Category Security

Rekha Patra, a survivor of the Sandeshkhali violence and now a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate for the Lok Sabha elections in Basirhat, has been granted X-category security by the Union Home Ministry.

Rekha Patra, a survivor of the Sandeshkhali violence and now a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate for the Lok Sabha elections in Basirhat, has been granted X-category security by the Union Home Ministry. Patra, who hails from Sandeshkhali, was nominated by the BJP for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections after raising her voice for the women of Sandeshkhali.

BJP Candidate Rekha Patra Receives X-Category Security


The security detail for Rekha Patra will be provided by commandos of the Central Industrial Security Forces (CISF), as reported by media sources. The decision comes amidst concerns about her safety and the volatile political environment in West Bengal.

The voting for Basirhat constituency is scheduled for June 1, marking the final phase of the ongoing Lok Sabha elections. Rekha Patra will be contesting against Trinamool Congress’s Haji Nurul Islam, who was nominated after the replacement of the incumbent MP, Bengali actor Nusrat Jahan.

Rekha Patra Receives X-Category Security

In addition to Rekha Patra, the Home Ministry has also extended security to five other BJP leaders in West Bengal. Pranat Tudu and Nirmal Saha, BJP’s candidates from Jhargram and Nirmal Saha respectively, have been granted X-category security. Kartik Paul, BJP’s candidate from Raiganj, has been allocated Y-category security.

Furthermore, Ashok Kandari and Ashok Purkait, BJP candidates from Jainagar and Mathurapur respectively, have also been granted X-category security following Intelligence Bureau (IB) reports highlighting potential threats to their safety.

Rekha Patra, upon her candidature, expressed her determination to fulfill her responsibility and address the issues faced by women in Sandeshkhali. She pledged to fight for their rights and ensure their voices are heard, emphasizing her commitment to the cause.
