Punjab : Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) has revealed its candidates for all seats in Punjab, finalizing its lineup with the announcement of names in the second list. Notably, three-time sitting MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal will once again vie for victory from her stronghold in Bathinda.
SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal disclosed the names of six candidates during a press conference, outlining the party’s strategy for the upcoming elections. Apart from Harsimrat Kaur Badal, the list includes Mohinder Singh KP for Jalandhar, Ranjit Singh Dhillon for Ludhiana, Sohan Singh Thandal for Hoshiarpur, Nardev Singh Bobby Mann for Ferozepur, and Hardeep Singh Butrela for Chandigarh.
With this announcement, SAD has ensured representation on all 13 Lok Sabha seats in Punjab. The comprehensive list reflects the party’s commitment to contesting the elections independently, a departure from its longstanding alliance with the BJP-led NDA or the Opposition’s I.N.D.I.A bloc.
This electoral cycle marks a significant shift for Akali Dal, as it embarks on its solo journey for the first time since 1996. The decision to contest independently stems from the party’s withdrawal from the NDA in 2020 in protest against the now-repealed farm laws, signaling a recalibration of political alliances in the region.
Earlier announcements saw SAD unveiling its first list of candidates, featuring prominent leaders like Prem Singh Chandumajra, Daljit Singh Cheema, and Anil Joshi. With preparations in full swing, all eyes are now set on the final phase of the seven-phased general elections scheduled for June 1, with results slated for declaration on June 4.
