Shivraj Chouhan, Four-Time Chief Minister, Decodes BJP’s Victory in Madhya Pradesh Elections

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan attributes the BJP’s remarkable victory in the assembly elections to the impactful governance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “double-engine government” and transformative initiatives like the Ladli Scheme.

The BJP secured a significant lead with 163 seats against the Congress’s 64 in the 230-member assembly. Additionally, the BJP emerged victorious in Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh, previously under Congress control.

Expressing his gratitude, Mr. Chouhan emphasized Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s popularity among the people of Madhya Pradesh. He highlighted the positive impact of the double-engine government’s initiatives, particularly the Ladli scheme, which has contributed to the upliftment and improvement of people’s lives. The Chief Minister acknowledged the collective efforts of the party in achieving this victory.

Addressing concerns about anti-incumbency, Mr. Chouhan asserted that he did not observe any such sentiments among the people; rather, they exhibited pro-incumbency feelings. Despite attempts by some Congress members to mislead the public, the people’s trust in the BJP remained strong, he noted.

Responding to speculation about a potential fifth term as Chief Minister, Shivraj Singh Chouhan stated that such decisions are made by the party leadership.

The assembly election, held in a single phase on November 17, witnessed an impressive voter turnout of 77.82%, surpassing the 2018 percentage of 75.63%. A total of 2,533 candidates contested across 230 constituencies, with 5.59 lakh eligible voters participating in the democratic process.
