New Delhi : In a proactive move to ensure participation from the Kashmiri migrant community in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has established special polling booths across various locations in Delhi. This initiative aims to facilitate voting for more than 1.13 lakh registered Kashmiri migrant voters who are eligible to cast their ballots in the Anantnag, Srinagar, and Baramulla constituencies of the Kashmir Valley.
To cater to the needs of Kashmiri migrants residing in Delhi, the ECI has strategically placed four special polling booths at different venues across the capital. These booths, located at the Kashmir Resident Commission on Prithviraj Road, Kashmir Kisan Ghar in Shalimar Bagh, Arwachin International Public School in Dilshad Garden, and GGSSS Paprawat in Najafgarh, aim to streamline the voting process and provide convenient access to voters.
Recognizing the importance of ensuring seamless participation, the Election Commission has mandated the provision of free transportation services for eligible Kashmiri migrants to and from these special polling booths. This initiative seeks to alleviate any financial burden on voters, ensuring their ability to exercise their democratic right without hindrance.
In addition to logistical support, extensive awareness campaigns and voter outreach programs have been organized to encourage greater participation among Kashmiri migrant voters. Various camps and meetings held across different locations in Delhi and NCR have garnered significant response, leading to a notable increase in voter enrollment through Form-M and Form 12-C compared to previous elections.
With approximately 169 voters registered for the Baramulla parliamentary constituency, 480 for Srinagar, and 95 for Anantnag, the enthusiasm among Kashmiri migrants to participate in the democratic process is evident. The ECI’s proactive measures and the collaborative efforts of officials are expected to result in a high voter turnout during the upcoming Lok Sabha elections .
