SpiceJet Srinagar-Bound flight makes emergency landing at Delhi airport due to false warning

New Delhi: A Delhi-Srinagar SpiceJet flight had to return to Delhi’s IGI airport on Tuesday due to a false warning of cockpit malfunction. On April 18, SpiceJet B737 flight SG-8373 (Delhi-Srinagar) had to be diverted back to Delhi due to an AFT cargo fire light flashing in the cockpit, the airline said in a statement.

SpiceJet said the lights went out on the captain’s action later and all operational parameters were found to be normal before landing. The statement said that after the action taken by the captain, the lights went out. A subsequent opening of the AFT cargo found no sign of fire or smoke and based on initial assessments the alert was found to be false.

The aircraft landed safely and the passengers were disembarked normally. However, a source said a full emergency was declared for the SpiceJet flight from Delhi to Srinagar, which had 140 passengers on board.

A full emergency was declared for SpiceJet Delhi-Srinagar flight SG 8373 at 10:40 am on Tuesday, the source said. The flight landed safely back at IGI Airport.
