Step-by-Step Guide for First-Time Voters in Lok Sabha Elections 2024

As Lok Sabha Elections 2024 kick off with seven phases starting from April 19 and concluding on June 1, it’s crucial for first-time voters to understand how to find their polling booth and cast their vote effectively.

Check Your Eligibility: Anyone over 18 years old can vote. Make sure your name is on the electoral roll, which you can verify through the Electoral Registration Officer in your area. Register in only one parliamentary constituency to avoid legal issues.
Prepare Your Documents: Bring one of the following documents as proof of identity:

Voter ID Card (EPIC)
Aadhar card
PAN card
Unique Disability ID (UDID) Card
Service identity card
Bank/Post Office passbook with a photo
Driving license
Passport
Smart code issued by RGI under NPR
Pension document
Official cards issued to MPs/MLAs/MLCs
MNREGA job card

Understanding the Voting Process
Locate Your Polling Booth: Find your designated polling station.

Verification Process: A polling officer will check your name on the voter list and ask for your ID proof.

Inking and Documentation: Your index finger will be inked after verification, and you’ll receive an acknowledgment slip. Sign a register.

Proceed to Vote: Hand over the slip to the polling officer, display your inked finger, and enter the booth.

Casting Your Vote: Use the Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) to select your preferred candidate by pressing the corresponding button.

Verification via VVPAT Machine:
A slip will appear on the VVPAT machine displaying your chosen candidate’s details. This slip will drop into a sealed VVPAT box.

NOTA Option: If none of the candidates suit your preference, choose “None of the Above” (NOTA).
Remember, electronic devices are not allowed in the polling booth. Leave your mobile phones and cameras at home or with a companion.

By following these steps, first-time voters can confidently participate in shaping the nation’s future during the Lok Sabha Elections 2024.
