Strong earthquake of 6.2 magnitude hits Southwest Indian Ridge

New Delhi: On Sunday morning, the National Center for Seismology said that a strong earthquake of magnitude 6.2 on the Richter Scale struck the Southwest Indian Ridge. According to the NCS, the powerful quake hit the region at around 3.39 (local time). The quake was at a depth of 10 km.

New Delhi: On Sunday morning, the National Center for Seismology said that a strong earthquake of magnitude 6.2 on the Richter Scale struck the Southwest Indian Ridge.

According to the NCS, the powerful quake hit the region at around 3.39 (local time). The quake was at a depth of 10 km.

On social media platform X, NCS tweeted, “Earthquake of Magnitude:6.2, Occurred on 21-01-2024, 03:39:41 IST, Lat: -39.64 & Long: 46.16, Depth: 10 Km, Location: Southwest Indian Ridge.”

On Sunday morning, another powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 6.3 on the Richter Scale hit Western Brazil. According to the NCS, the quake was at a depth of 614 kilometres with a latitude -7.23 and Longitude 71.54.

An earthquake of 6.2 magnitude stuck the Mariana Islands, on Saturday night. The National Center for Seismology said that the tremors were felt at 21:18:23 Indian Standard Time (IST). The quake was at a depth of 10 km.
