Suvendu Adhikari Lodges Formal Complaint Against Mamata Banerjee’s Alleged Threats and Intimidation

The formal complaint centers on Banerjee's speech at the Netaji Indoor Stadium, where she reportedly hinted at a retaliatory strategy. Suvendu Adhikari Lodges Formal Complaint Against Mamata Banerjee’s Alleged Threats and Intimidation

Leader of the Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari, has taken legal action against West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, accusing her of criminal intimidation and threats. Adhikari, who recently switched political allegiance, alleges that he has been unfairly targeted with concocted cases by the ruling Trinamool Congress.

The formal complaint centers on Banerjee’s speech at the Netaji Indoor Stadium, where she reportedly hinted at a retaliatory strategy. She suggested that for every four MLAs from her party sent to jail, eight individuals from the opposition party would face murder charges under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code.

Adhikari, labeling Banerjee’s speech as “provocative” and “criminally intimidating,” emphasizes the potential severe consequences, including capital punishment under the aforementioned section. He contends that such statements not only lack basis but also pose significant repercussions.

In the complaint, Adhikari urges the police to register an FIR against Mamata Banerjee and others involved, citing potential violations of various sections of the Indian Penal Code. These include 182 (false information), 194 (false evidence), 195A (threatening or provoking for inducing a person to commit an offence), 211 (false charge of offence made with intent to injure), 203 (giving false information respecting an offence committed), 505(II) (statements creating or promoting enmity, hatred, or ill-will between classes), and 506 (criminal intimidation).

This move by Adhikari underscores the heightened political tensions and legal complexities surrounding the shifting dynamics in West Bengal politics.
