Assembly Election Results 2023 : The swearing-in ceremony for Mizoram’s newly elected Chief Minister, Lalduhoma, is scheduled for Friday, December 8th. The former IPS officer, aged 73, emerged victorious from the Sercchip constituency, securing the mandate by a margin of 2,982 votes. Lalduhoma’s ascent to the position marks a significant milestone as he becomes the state’s first new Chief Minister in three decades.

Lalduhoma’s journey

Lalduhoma, now 74 years old, embarked on a noteworthy journey from an IPS officer to a seasoned politician. His foray into politics commenced with his election as a Lok Sabha MP in 1984. However, his political trajectory faced a setback in 1988 when he became the first Member of Parliament to be disqualified under the anti-defection law.

Facing disqualification once again in 2020, this time as a Member of the Legislative Assembly in Mizoram for violating the anti-defection law, Lalduhoma rebounded by winning the by-poll from the Serchhip seat in 2021.

In the 2023 Mizoram Assembly polls, Lalduhoma contested once more from the Serchhip seat, securing victory by a margin of 2,982 votes. Notably, Lalduhoma’s political journey has been marked by both challenges and triumphs, including his departure from the Congress in 1986 amid accusations of conspiring against former Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla and others.
