Tamil Nadu: Ahead of Lok Sabha elections 2024, On Friday, Tamil actor Thalapathy Vijay announced his entry into politics. The actor named his party Tamilaga Vetri Kazham and said that will not contest the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, stating his commitment to “fundamental political change” with transparent, caste-free, and corruption-free administration.

The actor made the big announcement after his fan club Vijay Makkal Iyakkam approved the formation of the political party at a meeting held in Chennai last week. While issuing a statement, Vijay said, “We are not going to contest the 2024 elections and we are not going to support any party. We have made this decision for General and Executive Council Meeting.”

he also said in the statement,“ Our goal is to contest and win the upcoming 2026 assembly elections and bring about the fundamental political change that people want. Currently our party has applied for registration keeping in mind the time required for the work.” He added, “Politics is not a hobby for me; It is my deepest passion and I want to devote myself fully to it.”

In another statement, he further said, “You are all aware of the current political climate. Administrative malpractices and corrupt political culture on the one hand, and a divisive political culture which strives to divide our people on the lines of caste and religion on the other hand. Everyone, especially, in Tamil Nadu is yearning for a fundamental political change that can lead to a selfless, transparent, caste-free, visionary, corruption-free and efficient administration”.

Vijay’s entry into politics will be another high-profile entry into Tamil Nadu politics from cinema after Kamal Haasan, MG Ramachandran, Sivaji Ganesan etc. After getting the Election Commission’s approval, the party is planning to organize public meetings and events. ,

During these meetings, they will present their policies, principles and action plans, as well as introduce a flag and party emblem. However, the actor said that the party will neither contest the 2024 general elections nor support any party in the upcoming elections.
