Telangana Assembly Polls: PM Modi Urges People To Vote In Record Numbers

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called upon the people of Telangana to participate in the ongoing assembly polls in record numbers, emphasizing the significance of strengthening the democratic process. The current election aims to select 119 members for the Telangana Legislative Assembly, with voters actively queuing up across the state under heightened security measures.

In a social media post, Modi stated, “I call upon my sisters and brothers of Telangana to vote in record numbers and strengthen the festival of democracy.” His particular focus was on encouraging young and first-time voters to exercise their right to vote.

The voting process commenced at 7 AM at the 35,655 polling stations across the state, continuing until 5 PM in 106 constituencies. In 13 seats affected by Left Wing Extremism (LWE), the polling will conclude at 4 PM.

The electoral landscape in Telangana has seen a dynamic triangular contest among the BJP, Congress, and Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS). The campaigning witnessed prominent national leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Rahul Gandhi, and BRS supremo K Chandrasekhar Rao, engaging with voters. BRS has fielded candidates in all 119 seats.

A total of 2,290 candidates from 109 national and regional parties, including 221 women and one transgender candidate, are participating in the elections. The voting decisions of the 3.17 crore voters will determine the fate of these candidates. Notably, 103 legislators, most from the ruling Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), are re-contesting in this election. The state has established 35,655 polling stations for voters to exercise their franchise.
