Telangana: Three children among five killed in road accident in Wanaparthy district; 6 injured

Sources said that the car carrying 12 travelers was on way from Hyderabad to Ballari in Karnataka when the driver lost control over the vehicle after which the vehicle rammed into a tree. In the accident, five people including three children were killed while seven others were injured.

Wanaparthy: In a heartbreaking incident early on Monday, a family’s wedding journey turned tragic on NH-44 near Kothkota Junction in Wanaparthy, Telangana. The driver, identified as Ali and also a family member, allegedly lost control of the vehicle due to fatigue, leading to a devastating accident that took the lives of five people, including three children and left six others injured.

The family of 12 was traveling from Ballari in Karnataka towards Hyderabad when their SUV went off the road and collided with a roadside tree around 2:30 am. The collision was severe, causing instant death and serious injuries to passengers.

Wanaparthy SP Rakshita K. Murthy revealed that safety measures like seatbelts and airbags saved the driver from serious harm but could not prevent the tragic loss of life and injuries to others. One of the survivors, a six-year-old child, miraculously escaped unharmed, highlighting the unpredictable nature of road accidents.

As soon as the information was received, the local police swiftly rushed to the spot and started a rescue operation. The injured were shifted to the nearest hospital while the bodies of the deceased were taken by the police into custody. The deceased have been identified as Abdul Rahman (62), Salima Ji (85), children Wasir Rawut (7 months), Busra (2), and Maria (5).

Doctors said that the condition of Samira (5), Hussain (10), Shafi, Qadirunnisa, Habib, Ali, and Shahjahan Baig, who were injured in the accident, is critical. Among them, Ali is being treated at Wanaparthy Hospital. The rest have been shifted to Kurnool for specialised treatment.

In view of the accident, emergency services reached the spot and the injured were rushed to Wanaparthy Area Hospital for immediate medical attention. Local authorities and police have since become closely involved, notifying the families of the victims in both Bellary and Hyderabad and launching a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident. The community is in shock, mourning the sudden loss and standing in solidarity with the survivors and affected families of this tragedy.

As the investigation progresses, questions have emerged about road safety, driver fatigue and the importance of regular breaks during long journeys. This tragic incident is a reminder of the fragility of life and the grave need for vigilance on the road. This has prompted widespread discussion on how such accidents can be prevented in the future through both individual responsibility and systemic improvements in road safety standards and enforcement.
