In anticipation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve in Assam, the management has announced the temporary suspension of jeep safari and elephant rides in the Kaziranga range of Kohora. The closure is scheduled for March 7 to March 9, aligning with the Prime Minister’s planned visit.

A notice from Arun Vignesh, Divisional Forest Officer, Eastern Assam Wildlife Division, specified the closure dates for visitors. Jeep safari will be unavailable on March 7, March 8, and March 9 during forenoon, while elephant rides will be closed on March 8 and March 9.

Prime Minister Modi is set to visit the national park on March 8 and 9, arriving in the evening and staying overnight. During his stay, he is expected to partake in a jungle safari within the Kohora range, with both jeep and elephant safaris included in his two-day itinerary.

Kaziranga National Park, which received its national park status in February 1974, is gearing up for its Golden Jubilee celebrations this year.

On March 9, Prime Minister Modi plans to unveil a 125-foot bronze statue of the renowned Ahom general, Lachit Barphukan, at Jorhat. Additionally, he will perform the ‘Griha Pravesh’ ceremony for houses built under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, lay the foundation stone of Sivasagar Medical College, and address a public gathering at Meleng Meteli Pothar in Jorhat.

The Prime Minister’s itinerary also includes a visit to Arunachal Pradesh on March 9, where he will inaugurate the Sela Tunnel in West Kameng and unveil multiple development projects in Itanagar.
