New Delhi: Twitter will soon start paying verified content creators for the advertisement in their replies, company owner Elon Musk said on Saturday. The billionaire who acquired Twitter last October said that “creators must be verified and only ads served to verified users count.” The first block of payment will be around $5 million.

“In a few weeks, X/Twitter will begin paying creators for the ads shown in their replies. The first block payment totals $5M,” billionaire Elon Musk said in a tweet. Note, creator to be verified and only ads shown to verified users are counted,” he said.

The move also comes as Twitter’s newly named CEO, Linda Yaccarino, an advertising veteran from NBCUniversal, takes the helm at the social media platform. Since acquiring Twitter, Musk has made several major changes to the microblogging platform.

One of these changes was the introduction of a paid membership called “Blue” for Twitter. If you wish to obtain the coveted blue tick verification badge on Twitter, you will need to subscribe and make the necessary payment. The platform has struggled to retain advertisers since Musk acquired Twitter. They have have been wary about the placement of their ads after the company laid off thousands of employees.

Twitter has introduced a significant enhancement for its paid Blue members. Users with the blue tick verification badge can now edit any tweet for up to 60 minutes. Earlier in March, Musk had said that the messaging service makes about 5 or 6 cents per hour of attention from users and could raise that to 15 cents or more with advertisements that are more relevant and timely.

Previously, users were only allowed to edit their posts within a 30-minute time limit. This editing feature has received a major upgrade from Twitter, enabling users to rectify any errors in their tweets for up to an hour.
