Twitter ‘verified’ now follows no one, removes 4.2 lakh legacy accounts

New Delhi: Twitter may finally begin the process of canceling legacy verified accounts as it has started mass unfollowing and now follows ‘no one’. On a ‘Twitter Verified’ account, the following has dropped drastically as soon as it reaches ‘Zero’. Twitter previously followed around 420,000 legacy verified accounts.

Twitter had earlier warned of shutting down all legacy verified accounts from April 1 and even removing the checkmarks for those who still had but were not paying for a Twitter Blue subscription. But now that Twitter has unfollowed everyone, it is not clear whether Twitter Verified is following them or not.

Earlier, Variety reported that the microblogging site would remove the verified check-mark status from accounts that were verified by Twitter before Elon Musk’s acquisition, unless they planned Twitter Blue or business-focused Twitter verified organizations. Not subscribed.

Only individual Twitter users with blue checkmarks will be verified, paying for Twitter Blue, which costs US$8/month in the US via the web and US$11/month via in-app payments on iOS and Android. It will be a month.

Earlier, the company announced that Twitter Blue is now available worldwide. Twitter posted from its official handle. However, Twitter has not disclosed how it will deal with accounts of people who are marked as “notable”. For companies and brands, Twitter recently introduced a gold check mark and moved government accounts to a gray check mark.

As previously hinted, membership in the social network’s new Twitter Verified Organization program in the US – which will be the only way to have a gold or gray check-mark badge – will cost US$1,000/month (plus tax) and USD each 50/month (plus tax) for additional affiliated sub-accounts.

Twitter first introduced verified accounts in 2009 to help users identify that celebrities, politicians, companies and brands, news organizations and other accounts of “public interest” were real and not fake or parody accounts. .

The company previously did not charge for verification. Musk launched Twitter Blue with a check-mark badge as one of the premium perks within two weeks of acquiring the company.
