UP: 8-year-old girl killed in Leopard attack in Balrampur

Balrampur: On Monday, a forest official said that a leopard abducted an girl and left behind her mutilated body near the Suhelwa forest of Bhagwanpur Kodar village. She was eight-year-old. District Magistrate Arvind Kumar Singh sent SDM Tulsipur and a Forest Department team to the spot and ordered the capture of the leopard. Regional Forest Officer Manoj Kumar said on Monday that in Bhagwanpur Kodar village of Pachpedwa development block, the eight-year-old daughter Anushka of a man named Chandra Prakash had gone to play with the children of the neighborhood on Sunday, when a leopard, hiding in the bushes, attacked her.

But attacked him and took him by the jaw. After hearing the screams of the children, they reached the nearby rural spot, but by then the leopard had already gone inside the forest with the baby girl. Chandra Prakash’s daughter Anushka had gone out to play in the village that comes under the Pachperwa development block on Sunday when the leopard, hiding in the bushes, took her away.

He said that after getting information about the incident, the forest department personnel reached the spot and started searching for the girl along with the villagers. Late evening his mutilated body was found in the forest. Kumar said that the postmortem of the dead body is being done. Their attention drawn by screaming children, the villagers tried to catch up with the beast but it disappeared with the child, Forest department’s Sub Divisional Officer Manoj Kumar said.

District Magistrate Arvind Singh said that a team of forest department has been sent to the spot. Caging and other measures have been given to catch leopards.The girl’s mutilated body was found during a search by the forest department.The DM said that instructions have been given to set up cages and the family will be compensated for the loss after the post mortem.

Divisional Forest Officer Dr Sam Maran M said the department is searching for the leopard with the help of villagers in and around the sugarcane fields and has been installing cameras to trap the animal. In the last one month, five people, including two girls, have been killed in leopard attacks in the area.Four teams, composed of experts from Jaunpur, Siddharthnagar, and Barabanki, are constantly visiting villages, but the big cat remains at large.
