UP Government and Railways Grant Approval for New Rail Link to Noida Airport

Uttar Pradesh government and the Ministry of Indian Railways (Railway Board) have given the green light for a 47.6km rail connection from the upcoming Noida airport in Jewar. This rail link is set to connect to the Delhi-Mumbai Railway line in Palwal, Haryana, and the Delhi-Kolkata railway line in Chola village, Bulandshahr. The primary objective is to enhance connectivity and stimulate growth along the Yamuna Expressway.

Uttar Pradesh Approves 47.6km Rail Link for Noida Airport Connectivity

During a recent meeting, Uttar Pradesh Chief Secretary DS Mishra sanctioned the project and directed the Northern Railway to prepare a detailed project report within six months. Arun Vir Singh, CEO of the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (Yeida), highlighted that the rail link, with a station situated within the airport complex, will seamlessly connect passengers arriving at and departing from Noida airport to both Eastern and Western Railway corridors.

Mishra, in a letter to the Railway Board in July 2023, had requested the establishment of a 47.6km rail link between Noida airport in Jewar and the Delhi-Mumbai Railway line in Palwal, Haryana, and the Delhi-Kolkata railway line in Chola village, Bulandshahr.

Noida airport’s rail link set to be operational by end of 2024

As part of the agreement, the Uttar Pradesh government has assured the Swiss company overseeing Jewar airport construction that the rail link will be operational by the end of 2024. Additionally, the government has pledged to provide multimodal connectivity from Jewar airport to cities in the National Capital Region.

Yeida officials emphasized that the rail link’s purpose extends beyond benefiting airport passengers, aiming to boost cargo business in the region and create employment opportunities. The Yeida has already devised plans for two expressways connecting Noida airport in Jewar to Chola railway station in Bulandshahr.

Arun Vir Singh emphasized that the establishment of the railway link would not only generate substantial business opportunities but also create thousands of jobs in the region. Passengers traveling through Jewar airport are expected to benefit from multimodal connectivity, including road, rail, metro, and pod taxi systems currently under development.
