UP Police Constable exam 2024 cancelled amid aspirants protest over paper leak; re-exam in 6 months

Lucknow: In a massive breakthrough, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh government on Saturday announced that the UP Police Constable Recruitment Examination-2023, conducted on February 17 and 18, will be cancelled following paper leak. The government has given instructions to conduct a re-examination within six months.

The date for the re-examination was yet to be announced. This move came after lakhs of aspirants protested against the paper leak and demanded cancellation and re-examination of the UP Police Constable Recruitment Exam.

In the heart of Lucknow, the storm was born not from the rising monsoon clouds, but from the voices of thousands of civil services aspirants. Their chants echoed the Echo Garden, which transformed from a peaceful venue into a ground of protest against grave injustice.

The crux of their outrage was the alleged paper leak in the Uttar Pradesh Police Constable Recruitment Examination – a revelation that left hopefuls in shock. These ambitious officials, who had devoted years to rigorous preparation, found their efforts potentially in vain due to integrity violations, leading to mass demonstrations.

Apart from this, CM Yogi has said that stern action will be taken against those who play with the hard work of the youth and the sanctity of the examination.

Those who violate the confidentiality of the examination are on the radar of STFand many major arrests have been made, the Chief Minister said.

Taking to social media platform X, CM Yogi said, “Orders have been given to cancel the examination conducted for selection to the posts of Reserve Civil Police and to conduct re-examination within the next 6 months. There can be no compromise with the sanctity of examinations. Those who play with the hard work of the youth will not be spared under any circumstances. Strictest action is certain to be taken against such unruly elements.”

As soon as the development came, celebrations erupted at Eco Garden in state capital Lucknow, where aspirants have been protesting for a re-exam. Similar protests have taken place in other cities of the state, including Prayagraj, where the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC) is headquartered. “Those who violated the confidentiality of the exam are on the Special Task Force’s (STF) radar. Several major arrests have been made,” an official told sources.

The UP Police Recruitment and Promotion Board, which is now under intense scrutiny, has sought evidence related to the leak, a move that underlines the seriousness of the situation. Nearly 48 lakh candidates had come into the fray to get posts in the police force, but their hopes were dashed due to corruption allegations. Taking strict action, the authorities arrested 244 persons for fraudulent activities related to the examination.

In the wake of this turmoil, the candidates of Eco Garden are united in demanding justice and equal opportunity. Their voices, amplified by the tragedy and controversy surrounding the exams, echo beyond the barricades, demanding a re-examination not just of the papers but of the entire recruitment ethos. As the investigation progresses, the hope remains that integrity will prevail, ensuring a future where merit, not misconduct, will determine one’s fate in the civil services.
