UP: Priyanka Gandhi hospitalised due to ill-health; to skip Bharat Jodo Nyay yatra in Chandauli

NEW DELHI: On Friday, Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra admitted to a hospital due to ill health, because of which she would not be able to join the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra in Chandauli, Uttar Pradesh. She took to X (formerly Twitter) to announce that she has become ill and will join the Yatra once she recovers.

According to the information, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra was supposed to join her brother at Chandauli in Uttar Pradesh after the Yatra entered the state from Bihar. The yatra is entering the state through Varanasi on today, February 16, and then reaching Amethi on February 19 via Bhadohi, Prayagraj, and Pratapgarh.

On social media platform X, Priyanka Gandhi posted,”I was eagerly waiting for the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra to reach Uttar Pradesh, but due to illness I had to be admitted to the hospital today itself. I will join the journey as soon as I feel better. Till then, I wish all the yatri reaching Chandauli-Banaras, my colleagues and dear brother from Uttar Pradesh who are diligently preparing for the journey.”

Raebareli remains the sole Lok Sabha seat held by the Congress in UP, currently represented by Sonia Gandhi. Former Congress chief Rahul Gandhi is leading the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra from Manipur to Mumbai. The Yatra is currently passing through Bihar.

Gandhi and Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge addressed a mega rally in Bihar’s Aurangabad on Thursday. On Friday evening, the Yatra will be in Uttar Pradesh, the key Hindi heartland state that sends the maximum number of MPs to the Lok Sabha.

It will traverse through the state from February 16 to 21 and then again from February 24 to 25. The initial plan was for the yatra to stay in Uttar Pradesh until February 26, reaching Bareilly from Lucknow, and then continuing to Aligarh and Agra before entering Rajasthan, as per the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra website

According to the Congress, February 22 and 23 are rest days for the Yatra. The East-West Manipur-Mumbai Yatra traverses 6,700 km through 15 states and aims to highlight the message of “nyay” (justice) while meeting common people on the way.
