Uttar Pradesh CM Hints at Renaming Akbarpur: A Step Towards Heritage Preservation

The Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath, suggested that Akbarpur might get a new name. This idea is part of a plan to remove reminders of past control and keep traditions alive in the state. It fits with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s goal to erase signs of slavery and honor our history.

Uttar Pradesh CM Hints at Renaming Akbarpur

Since 2017, CM Adityanath has been working to remove colonial symbols from Uttar Pradesh. Besides Akbarpur, there are talks about changing names of other places like Aligarh and Shahjahanpur. Streets, parks, and buildings are also getting new names to remember former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

In Lucknow, there are many places named after Atal Bihari Vajpayee. The Mughalsarai railway station was renamed Deen Dayal Upadhyay Junction too.

The renaming trend gained momentum before the 2019 Kumbh Mela, with Allahabad becoming Prayagraj and Faizabad being renamed Ayodhya. The recent resolution to rename Aligarh to Harigarh and Firozabad to Chandra Nagar reflects ongoing efforts to reclaim historical identities.

People also want to change district names. Sambhal might become Prithviraj Nagar or Kalki Nagar, and Sultanpur might change to Kushbhawanpur. There are also talks to rename Deoband to Devvrind and Ghazipur to Gadhipuri.

Renaming Akbarpur shows Uttar Pradesh’s effort to honor its history and keep its heritage alive.
