Lucknow: On Tuesday, The order banning classes for girls in coaching institutes after 8 pm under the Safe City project in Noida has been revoked. The government had issued an order on August 30 and imposed the ban. The new order signed by Special Secretary Akhilesh Kumar Mishra on December 4 comes after widespread criticism of the previous guideline in Noida under the ‘Safe City’ project.
In a statement, the order said,“The following guidelines are being issued by canceling the previously issued guidelines.In connection with the establishment of the Safe City project, 100 percent CCTV cameras should be ensured in all higher educational institutions.”
The order added, “The said cameras should be installed at the entry and exit gates of the educational institution, premises, teaching rooms (inside and outside), galleries, verandahs and main gates and hostels. Provision of separate toilets for girl students should be ensured in higher educational institutions, especially coaching centres.” The letter dated August 30 said that coaching institutes should not run classes for girls after 8 pm.
The now-canceled order said, “If coaching institutes where girls study are found operating after 8 pm, punitive action will be taken against them.” While many students in Noida and Greater Noida had questioned the August 30 order, opposition party leaders had also criticized the Uttar Pradesh government, citing the “law and order” situation in the “safe city” Noida.
