Uttarakhand: On Sunday, Rajendra Bhandari Congress leader and sitting MLA in Uttarakhand resigned from the party. He joined the BJP shortly after his resignation, ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.
In the presence of Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and Union Minister Piyush Goyal, the 60-year-old leader from the Badrinath assembly joined the BJP in New Delhi.
Welcoming remarks of the Bhandari to the party, Goyal said, “He has worked in the service of the people of Badrinath… The way PM Modi has worked across the country to eliminate corruption, protect the heritage and develop the nation has inspired Rajendra Bhandari to join the BJP. I hope he will continue to work with the same determination and with a sense of service.”
Bhandari’s resignation from the Congress was succinct, offering no explicit rationale for his departure. Chief Minister Dhami said Bhandari joined the BJP because of the developmental work that the party has done.
Dhami said,”BJP was already in the position to win all five Lok Sabha seats of Uttarakhand but his addition to our family will add a positive energy. We welcome him to the world’s largest political party.” Once again, Bhandari declined to elaborate on his reasons for leaving the Congress in his brief resignation letter.
