Dehradun : The family of a merchant navy sailor, Ankit Saklani, is seeking the assistance of the Uttarakhand government as he has gone missing from a ship en route to a port in Turkey. Ankit Saklani, who joined Mumbai-based firm Elvis Ship Management on December 1, has been untraceable since December 18.
Ankit’s wife, Pinky Saklani, revealed that her husband, with over 15 years of sailing experience, started sending “weird messages” just 10 days after joining the new company. Expressing a desire to return, Ankit’s messages grew more unsettling, culminating in a message on December 11, where he hinted that the company would be responsible if anything happened to him.
Pinky Saklani contacted the Mumbai-based firm, Elvis Ship Management, for information. She claimed that the company’s agents, Dinesh Jaiswal and another woman, informed her that Ankit’s signoff could only be done after the ship reached the port in Turkey on December 18. However, on the same day at 5 pm, the company allegedly informed Pinky that Ankit had jumped off the vessel just before reaching the port.
Ankit’s brother, suspecting foul play, has written a letter to Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, urging a thorough probe into the matter. The family alleges that the company is portraying the incident as a suicide and has ceased communication with them.
In addition to seeking government intervention, the family has written to the Turkey Embassy regarding the incident. They express concerns about the circumstances surrounding Ankit’s disappearance and the lack of cooperation from Elvis Ship Management.
