Eastern Congo displacement camps bombing : At least 12 people, including children, were killed in attacks on two camps for displaced people in North Kivu province in eastern Congo. The UN said camps in Lac Vert and Mugunga, near the provincial capital Goma, were hit by bombs.
These attacks have been strongly condemned by the United Nations as “gross violations of human rights and international humanitarian law” and could be classified as war crimes. The attacks were blamed on a rebel group called M23 with alleged ties to Rwanda.
The M23 rebel group shared a statement on the social media platform ‘X’, denying any role in the attacks and blaming the Congolese army for them. UN spokesman Jean Jonas Yaovy Tosa told the AP that at least 12 people were killed and more than 20 were injured in the attacks.
