24 Delhi-bound trains running late as cold day conditions, dense fog persist in North India

New Delhi: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said that Cold day conditions and dense fog continued to prevail in several parts of India with no relief expected until at least January 15. On Thursday morning, Several Delhi-bound trains faced delays (January 11) due to thick fog and low visibility impacting railway operations in various parts of India.

New Delhi: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said that Cold day conditions and dense fog continued to prevail in several parts of India with no relief expected until at least January 15. On Thursday morning, Several Delhi-bound trains faced delays (January 11) due to thick fog and low visibility impacting railway operations in various parts of India.

The railway officials said that two trains including Saharsa-New Delhi Vaishali Express and Ambedkarnagar-Katra Express are likely to arrive late by around 3 hours while Ajmer-Katra Pooja Express is expected to arrive 6 hours late. In North India, dense to very dense fog conditions were very likely to prevail for a few hours in the morning in isolated pockets of north Rajasthan on January 11 and 12 (Thursday and Friday), and may abate thereafter.

The Railways said that as many as 24 trains to Delhi from various parts of the country were running late due to dense fog conditions. As per the Northern Railways, at least five trains are running late by more than 4 hours, namely Seoni-Ferozpur Express, Kamakhya-Delhi Jn. Brahmputra Mail, Azamgarh-Delhi Jn Kaifiyat Express, Katihar-Amritsar Express and Ajmer-Katra Pooja Express.

The IMD said that Dense fog conditions were predicted for a few hours in the morning in isolated pockets of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Uttar Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Mizoram and Tripura from January 11 to 15. Maximum temperatures are in the range of 9-12 degrees over many parts of Punjab and Haryana; and in the range of 13-16 degrees over north Rajasthan, Delhi, northwest Madhya Pradesh and some parts of Uttar Pradesh.

It is below normal by 4-9 degrees over these areas. On Thursday, at 5:30 am, Visibility in Punjab’s Bathinda and Agra was down to 0 metres, 25 metres in Tripura’s Agartala, and 50 metres in Jammu, Uttar Pradesh’s Varanasi, Madhya Pradesh’s Satna, Purnea in Bihar, Assam’s Tezpur and Haryana’s Hisar.

Minimum temperatures are in the range of 6-15 degrees over Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, northwest Madhya Pradesh, Bihar and Jharkhand. In Delhi’s Palam area, visibility was recorded at 100 metres and 200 metres in Bhopal and Rajasthan’s Sriganganagar. Similar conditions were likely to prevail in the Jammu division, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, north Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Bihar, West Bengal and Sikkim on January 11 and 12.

The IMD said cold day conditions could continue in some parts of Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi, Punjab and isolated pockets of Uttar Pradesh on January 11 and abate thereafter. Such conditions were expected to prevail in the isolated pockets of Rajasthan on January 11 and abate thereafter. A fall by 2-3°C in minimum temperatures was likely over many parts of Central and East India during the next three to four days, according to the weather department.

Ground frost conditions were very likely over Uttarakhand on January 11 and 12, the bulletin stated. The weather office said that meanwhile, light to moderate rainfall was predicted at some places in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Coastal Karnataka and Lakshadweep during the next two days and dry weather thereafter.
