After Indigo, Air India seals deal with Airbus-Boeing to buy 470 new aircraft

New Delhi: After Indigo, Tata group-owned Air India has also tied up with Airbus-Boeing to buy 470 new aircraft. Air India has signed the purchase deal of the aircraft during the ongoing air show in Paris, the capital of France.

Speaking on the occasion, N Chandrasekaran, Chairman, Tata Sons, said that this historic move will help in furthering Air India’s growth and success in the long term. We are sure that through this partnership, we will be able to show modern aviation to the world.

In February this year, Air India had announced the purchase of 470 aircraft, taking forward the expansion plan. Now taking this deal forward, the airlines have signed a purchase agreement during the Paris Air Show with Boeing and Airbus to buy planes under this deal worth $70 billion.

Air India is going to buy 250 aircraft from Airbus and 220 aircraft from Boeing. Air India has tied up for 140 A320neo and 70 A321neo aircrafts. Apart from this, 34 A350-100 and six A350-900 wide-body jets are included. Air India had signed a letter of intent with the airbase in February.

In addition to 190 737 MAXs, Boeing is going to buy 20 787 Dreamliners and ten 777X jets. Also, the airlines have the option to purchase an additional 70 planes, including 50 737 MAXs and 20 787 Dreamliners. This is the biggest order for Boeing in the South Asia region.

Air India MD-CEO Campbell Wilson, who signed the deal, said that through an ambitious plan to expand with fleet renewal, Air India will be the most modern and least fuel efficient of all its network routes over the next five years. Will be the airlines operating the planes.
