Ahead of polls, SP supporters booked for insulting Maharana Pratap statue in Mainpuri of UP

Lucknow: Ahead of the third phase of polling, tension escalated in Mainpuri of Uttar Pradesh after Samajwadi Party (SP) supporters created a ruckus last night by raising indecent slogans and climbing on the statue of revered historical figure Maharana Pratap.

Lucknow: Ahead of the third phase of polling, tension escalated in Mainpuri of Uttar Pradesh after Samajwadi Party (SP) supporters created a ruckus by raising indecent slogans and climbing on the statue of revered historical figure Maharana Pratap in last night . Commenting on this incident, UP minister and BJP candidate Jaiveer Singh said, “They tried to desecrate the statue. The SP workers climbed in with their shoes and even used abusive language.”

The incident took place late last night after SP chief and party candidate from Mainpuri Akhilesh Yadav concluded his roadshow in the constituency. He was also joined by his wife and sitting MP Dimple Yadav. On Saturday, hundreds of people had gathered on the streets of Mainpuri to watch the party’s campaign.

However, tension arose after SP workers in Karhal town climbed the statue of Maharana Pratap and tried to put their flags on it, according to the officials. On the internet, a video that goes viral, in which showed that about a dozen SP supporters were seen waving SP flags on the statue of Maharana Pratap and raising indecent slogans.

In connection with the incident, two separate FIRs have been registered. Approximately 90 SP supporters have been booked for allegedly insulting the statue of Maharana Pratap and abusing senior BJP leaders.

Mainpuri police spokesperson said on the incident that efforts are currently on to identify the miscreants. The spokesperson said, “The complaint is also being sent to the Election Commission for necessary action.” This incident took place two days after the election rally of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
