Akhilesh Yadav Advocates Caste Census for Backward Classes, Pledges Support After 2024 Polls

Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav has called for a caste census in India, emphasizing the need to bring people from backward communities and classes into the mainstream. Speaking at a rally organized by Balraj Kundu’s Haryana Jansewak Party in Jind, Yadav pledged his party’s commitment to ensuring the rights and respect of individuals from marginalized backgrounds.

Yadav acknowledged that there are numerous backward communities whose representation and counting have been overlooked for years. He highlighted the widespread demand for a caste census across the country and expressed confidence that Haryana residents share this sentiment.

The SP president assured the audience that, post the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, his party would actively work towards conducting a comprehensive caste census. This echoes the demand made by the Congress, which has promised to initiate the survey if elected to power at the Centre. Bihar’s Janata Dal(United) government, led by Nitish Kumar, has already released the findings of its caste survey.

In addition to advocating for a caste census, Akhilesh Yadav criticized the Agniveer scheme for recruiting soldiers, initiated by the central government. He announced that the SP’s Lok Sabha poll manifesto would include a promise to end the Agniveer system and reinstate the previous recruitment process. Yadav addressed the youth of Haryana, expressing the party’s commitment to this change during the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.

The rally, attended by prominent figures such as former Gujarat Chief Minister Shankersinh Vaghela, reflected the SP’s dedication to addressing issues affecting backward classes and communities across India.
