Alert: QR Code Fraud Targets Devotees Ahead of Ram Temple Event, VHP Issues Warning

As the highly anticipated consecration ceremony for the Ram Temple in Ayodhya approaches, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) has issued a warning about a fraudulent scheme seeking donations in the name of the temple. Cybercriminals are circulating social media messages with QR codes, enticing unsuspecting devotees to scan and make payments, which end up in the hands of fraudsters.

VHP spokesperson Vinod Bansal emphasized that the Shri Ram Janmbhoomi Teerth Kshetra, the trust overseeing the temple’s construction, has not authorized anyone to collect funds. He informed that the matter has been brought to the attention of the Home Ministry and police authorities in Delhi and Uttar Pradesh.

In a video message, Bansal condemned the fraudulent attempts to collect money, urging people to remain vigilant. “Sri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Nyas has not authorized anyone to collect funds. I have written to the Home Ministry, Uttar Pradesh DGP, and Delhi’s Commissioner of Police, seeking strict action so that people do not fall prey to such frauds. People need to be careful too,” he stated. “This is an occasion for joy, we are sending out invitations. We will not accept any donation,” he added.

The scheme was uncovered when social media messages and phone calls soliciting donations surfaced. A VHP worker, upon receiving a call, reported the incident to the organization. The VHP has shared an audio clip of the recorded phone call, revealing the fraudulent tactics. The alleged fraudster claimed a “war between Hindu and Muslim societies,” using this false narrative to collect donations for the temple.

Devotees are urged to exercise caution and verify the authenticity of donation requests, especially as the Ram Temple event approaches. The VHP is actively working to raise awareness and prevent further exploitation of well-intentioned donors.
