In a significant development in Arunachal Pradesh’s political landscape, Chief Minister Pema Khandu and four other Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidates are poised to clinch victory unopposed in the upcoming assembly elections. With no contenders stepping forward to challenge their candidacies, these candidates are set to secure their positions as Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) without contestation.
The filing of nomination papers concluded on Wednesday, revealing that no other candidates filed papers from the respective assembly seats of Pema Khandu and four BJP nominees.
This unopposed election paves the way for Pema Khandu’s fourth consecutive term as an MLA, with his stronghold being the Mukto constituency in Tawang district.
Alongside the assembly elections, voting will also be conducted for the two Lok Sabha constituencies – Arunachal West and Arunachal East – on April 19.
Fifteen candidates have thrown their hats into the ring for the Lok Sabha seats, with scrutiny of nomination papers scheduled for Thursday.
