Arvind Kejriwal Defies Fifth ED Summons in Delhi Liquor Policy Probe

In the ongoing probe into the Delhi liquor policy case, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has once again chosen to skip the Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) summons, marking the fifth instance. The ED had called for his appearance at its Delhi headquarters today. Kejriwal had previously avoided questioning on January 19, asserting that the ED’s summons were illegal and aimed at his arrest.

Aap Alleges ED’s Actions Are Politically Driven

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), led by Kejriwal, has strongly criticized the ED’s actions, labeling them as “politically motivated” and “unlawful.” In a statement, the party expressed concerns over Prime Minister Modi’s alleged intention to arrest Kejriwal and destabilize the Delhi government, vowing not to let it happen.

This latest development follows Kejriwal’s refusal to appear before the probe agency on three prior summons issued for November 2, December 21, and January 3. The AAP chief, who had been questioned by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in April, has not been formally accused by the agency in connection with the case.

AAP Anticipates Possible Arrest

As three AAP leaders, including Manish Sisodia, Sanjay Singh, and Satyendra Jain, remain in custody, the party is actively preparing for the potential arrest of Kejriwal. Discussions within the party revolve around the possible courses of action, with a stance supporting Kejriwal’s continuation as Chief Minister even in the event of imprisonment.

The case revolves around allegations by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) that liquor companies played a role in shaping the excise policy, ensuring a 12% profit. The Enforcement Directorate further accused a liquor lobby, termed the “South Group,” of paying kickbacks, part of which was allegedly routed to public servants. The BJP has claimed that the AAP utilized the alleged scam’s proceeds to fund its extensive campaign in Gujarat, establishing itself as a national party.
