Assam: Congress youth Angkita Dutta, who accused leader, expelled for 6 years

New Delhi: Angkita Dutta, president of the Assam unit of the Youth Congress, has been expelled by the party. The Congress cited anti-party activities as the reason for his expulsion. As the President of Assam Youth Congress, Angkita Dutta first accused Youth Congress President Srinivas BV of mental harassment. There are also allegations of making obscene comments and threats in the FIR. However, on behalf of the Youth Congress legal team, these allegations have been called baseless.

After expelling Angkita Dutta from the party, the Congress party is seen standing with its Youth Congress President Srinivas BV. Congress Assam unit president Bhupen Kumar Bora has said that state unit youth wing president Angkita Dutta went public with allegations of harassment and gender discrimination against the Indian Youth Congress chief without first informing the party leadership. The reply to the show cause notice issued has been submitted.

Bhupen Kumar Bora said on Friday that (his) reply has been sent to the All India Congress Committee (AICC) for necessary action. Dutta had alleged in his various tweets on Tuesday that Srinivas had been mentally harassing and discriminating against him on the basis of gender for the last six months. She also accused Srinivas of constantly harassing her and “discriminating on the basis of gender”.

Angkita Dutta also claimed that she had told Congress leader Rahul Gandhi about the matter but no inquiry was ordered. Dutta lodged a complaint with the Dispur police station here on Wednesday alleging that Srinivas has been harassing her for the last six months using sexual slurs and abuses and also threatening her with dire consequences if she complained to senior party leaders.

Hours after Angkita Dutta tweeted, Srinivas issued her a legal notice and demanded that she apologize for her statements, else he would take legal action against her. The National Commission for Women has taken suo moto cognizance of Dutta’s allegations and has written a letter to the Assam Police for necessary action.
