Assam: Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra’ faces legal consequences for route deviation in Jorhat

Jorhat/Assam: In a significant development, an FIR has been lodged against ‘Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra’ and its key organizer KB Byju for deviating from the sanctioned path during its march in Assam’s Jorhat city. The deviation reportedly led to a turbulent atmosphere and a stampede-like situation, with several people falling and possible damage to property.

The yatra organized by a Congress MP had reportedly taken an unexpected turn in Jorhat city, leading to chaos. The FIR has accused the yatra of violating the district administration’s guidelines and violating road safety norms. It is noteworthy that in this incident many people including women were injured and many vehicles were damaged.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has issued a stern warning to the Congress, saying he will take legal action against them for disrupting the law and order situation in the state.

Despite these allegations, opposition leader Debabrata Saikia has argued that the FIR is a ploy to hamper the progress of the Yatra. They pointed to the lack of effective police management of traffic and a designated route for the march that was too short for the size of the gathering. The Assam leg of the yatra, which began in Manipur on January 14, will continue till January 25, covering 833 km across 17 districts.

The entire ‘Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra’ aims to cover an impressive journey of 6,713 kilometers in 67 days, passing through 110 districts across 15 states and culminating in Mumbai on March 20. This ambitious yatra is a testament to the efforts of the Congress to unite the country and demand justice on various national issues. However, the recent FIR and the resulting tension have added a new twist to this story, raising questions over the organization and management of the event.
