The election fervor in Uttar Pradesh takes a violent turn as the convoy of Union Minister and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Sanjeev Balyan comes under attack during his campaign in Muzaffarnagar.
Reports indicate that miscreants targeted the convoy, pelting stones during a public meeting organized by the BJP candidate in Madkarimpur village under the Khatauli police circle.
Authorities swiftly responded to the incident, with Muzaffarnagar Superintendent of Police, Satyanarayan Prajapati, confirming the receipt of information about the stone-pelting. An investigation is underway, with plans for prompt registration of a case.
Preliminary reports suggest injuries to at least two individuals and significant damage to six to seven vehicles parked outside the venue. Sudhir Saini, District President of the BJP, highlights the opposition’s alleged involvement, attributing the attack to their fear of Sanjeev Balyan’s rising popularity.
The attack unfolds against the backdrop of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in Uttar Pradesh, scheduled to commence on April 19. The state’s significance is underscored by its allocation of 80 parliamentary seats, with voting spread across multiple phases until June 1.
In the 2019 elections, the BJP and its ally Apna Dal (Sonelal) clinched a significant victory, securing 64 seats collectively. The SP-BSP alliance and Congress garnered 15 and 1 seats respectively, marking a pivotal moment in Uttar Pradesh’s political landscape.
