In a recent development, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has served a defamation notice to Atishi, a senior AAP leader and Delhi Minister, following her assertion that she was pressured by the saffron party to switch sides. This move comes on the heels of Atishi’s claim that she, along with other AAP leaders, would soon face arrest.
BJP Issues Defamation Notice to Atishi. At a press conference, Atishi revealed that she had been approached by the BJP through a close associate, who allegedly offered her the choice of joining the BJP or facing potential arrest within a month by the Enforcement Directorate. She further alleged that raids on her and her relatives’ residences were imminent, followed by summons and arrests.
Atishi emphasized that there were no grounds for Arvind Kejriwal, Delhi’s Chief Minister, to resign, as he has not been charged or convicted in the excise policy case. She condemned any potential resignation as a tactic for the BJP to undermine democratically elected governments by imprisoning leaders under false charges.
Asserting that the BJP’s strategy aims to dismantle the AAP by targeting its top leaders, Atishi declared her resolve to resist such intimidation, stating that AAP members are committed to the nation’s welfare.
In response, Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva dismissed Atishi’s claims as false, alleging the involvement of the entire AAP in a “liquor scam” and infighting over who would bear the brunt of legal repercussions.
This exchange underscores the intensifying political tensions between the AAP and the BJP, with both parties engaged in a war of words over alleged misconduct and targeted harassment.
